WSP Dog Program Highlights
- Warriors are accompanied by a trainer into the local animal shelter to train temperament-tested adoptable dogs within the shelter environment. This gives the warrior some "dog therapy" while helping the dog become even more adoptable. A certificate is placed on the dog's kennel, indicating the dog was "Trained by a Veteran" or "Trained by a First Responder".
- Training may lead to a possible transition from shelter to home, with adoption assistance provided for warriors capable of caring for their own companion animal.
- Opportunities are provided for therapeutic interaction with other animals in collaboration with partner nonprofits who provide these services. This includes yoga in the presence of therapy horses.
